The African Council on Narcotics (ACON) held a one day Drug Abuse and Cultism Prevention Talk show for students and staff of Edanafa Secondary School, Ediba, ABI Local Government Area, Cross River State, on Friday 14 February 2025. Key resource persons at the event were Dr. Mrs. Stella C. Bassey, an ACON Trustee, Chief Superintendent of Police Innocent Ayabotu, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ugep Divisional Police Office, and Dr. Rekpene Bassey, President of the African Council on Narcotics. The event was graced by Ovai Anehozeng Njokhu, one of the prominent Ediba Chiefs, and turned out very successfully. The twin evil of drug abuse and cultism are major social manaces in our general areas presently and require more than urgent attentionโฆ Unfortunately the government does not pay these social manaces the desired attention. It is hoped members of the political class and non governmental bodies might be stirred into providing the necessary driving force to tackle these social ills in our various communities.
